People take for granted all the benefits of growing up in St.Marys County. I was one of them.
One of the most rewarding benefits of living here is our county’s farm land. Growing up my Grandfather always had a garden full of tomatoes, squash, zucchini, and other fresh veggies like a lot of people do. The Amish and the other local farmers make a living raising, and selling all these goods to people at markets, and stores. It wasn’t until I was eighteen and moved to another state for a few years that realized how big of a part of my life all of this had been.
My first trip to the grocery store I remember buying tomatoes, and other fruits and vegetables (Yes I said fruit first because we all know tomatoes are considered a fruit) and getting home and making dinner and realizing the difference in taste. It may sound silly but I sure missed going to the farmers market, or going to my Grandparents house and getting them fresh from the garden.
That is where are motto was born, ‘keeping it local and making it fresh’. As you get older you learn what all is put into foods, the different pesticides, and in meat all the chemicals and hormones company’s use. Now I’m not saying become a vegetarian or anything, because there is nothing better than a big juicy steak or a good burger once in a while. My transition started right after my son was born. I started getting all of my eggs, butter, cheese, most of my meat, and of course my fruits and veggies from the market. Within about three weeks I really could tell the difference in how I felt. I still had my Wawa coffee, and fast food once in a while, but the food my family ate at home was always fresh and it all came from local farms. It not only tastes good, but it’s good for you.
With the help and support of my Parents, family and friends i am able to share with you the benefits of living in this great community. At laurel Grove we admire our local farmers, and all their hard work. We want you, our loyal customers to be able to enjoy that same food. The kind that’s not only good, but good for you.
